Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

We are an energetic but hardworking class. When we start Year 1, we move from EYFS and into KS1 where we start following the National Curriculum.

Our Teaching Team

Our class teacher is Mrs Hawdon. Miss Rogers, Miss Walker, Mrs Burnside, Mrs Collins and Mrs Joyce all help us with our learning.

A Typical Day in Year 1

In Year 1, we start every morning with Phonics. It is important we arrive at school on time so we do not miss the foundations of our learning.

We have P.E. on Mondays and Thursdays. P.E. kits should remain in school throughout the half term

Children need their reading records and reading books in school every day so they can be signed by staff when children read in school.

We change reading books every Friday. This is always the book children have been reading in class. Children read the same book in school for 1 week and then at home for 1 week. This allows them to build their sight vocabulary as they become more familiar with the story.

Homework

Children are expected to read at least 3 times per week at home.
